UIST AND BENBECULA ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION STRATEGY
A significant level of the economy of Benbecula and the Uists is based around Hebrides Range and its activities. While the Range makes a vital contribution to the local economy, the Hebrides Range Taskforce takes the view that the economy needs to diversify away from being overly reliant on one sector.
The Taskforce has formed a working group to bring forward ideas in regard to diversification of the local economy. The group, comprising community organisations; the Chamber of Commerce; Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Skills Development Scotland, has developed a potential suite of ideas and projects based on existing community development strategies. Following a consultation exercise with the local business and wider community, the final version of the Economic Diversification Strategy is now available here.
The strategy will be formally presented to the Scottish Government in July 2010. However, opportunities for ongoing feedback exist. Please forward thoughts, comments, observations or questions to:
